To make a long story short, after returning the bike to see if they could actually fix it, I was told that they really couldn't and eventually told by a manager when I initially picked up the bike I was supposed to be warned that the bike potentially was unsafe to ride.
Very poor communication all around at this location specifically. Apparently the bike that I picked up and paid for was deemed "potentially hazardous to ride", due to an issue with trueing the rear wheel. I was never once told this during the initial "service" consultation or when I picked it up to pay for it.
Picked up my bike today. I will say today's experience was much improved. Still disappointed the issues were not resolved when I took the bike in the first time. The team at the St Louis Park location seemed more understanding this time and gave me a reasonable service. Because of this follow up experience I have increased my review from 1 star to 3. My initial experience may be limited to the specific location or individual. In the future I would be willing to give Eric's another chance though I would avoid the Maple Grove location.
I took the "repaired" bike out for a short ride, maybe a mile, when the rear wheel suddenly shifted and jammed into the frame. I went flying forward, luckily not over the handle bars, and luckily no severe injuries, but could have been much, much worse.
Could have been much worse, but definitely be extremely cautious in letting this place repair anything.
The only reason I am giving 2 stars and not 1, is because after a very long and time consuming experience, I was refunded for a terrible repair experience. DO NOT TRUST THE REPAIR SHOP!
I just put invisiFRAME on the bike frame and noticed the left side of the bike has numerous dings and the rear triangle has a chunk out of the carbon. At Erik's the bike wasn't just taken on a test ride, but was crashed! I'm going to take the bike to another shop to make sure it's safe to ride?
I bought a new expensive bike off the floor and had it shipped to my home. Erik’s bragged about how well they pack bikes for shipping. When UPS delivered it, the fork legs were out of the bottom of the box and the paint was gone! Additionally there was a worn spot on the fork, about a centimeter in diameter, where the paint had been rubbed off. Obviously the bike was not packed properly. The dropper post was squishy, probably caused by keeping the seat in the down position for an extended period. It had to be rebuilt by my local bike shop. With these issues, I was tempted to send the bike back, but this is a mountain bike so the paint issues are not serious. Paying $75 to repair the dropper post on a new bike is just not right however. Erik’s has failed repeatedly to respond to my emails detailing these issues which included a request for a store credit for $75. Note that I didn’t ask for a refund. But wait, maybe they are not getting my emails now, though they did before the sale. Or, maybe they don’t think I had the dropper post rebuilt or that it was unnecessary. In any case, not responding is downright rude!
Chad spent almost two hours with us while I tested out a couple (er, 4 maybe 5) different bikes. I found one that was perfect and I am so excited!! He was patient with me, very professional, and easy to work with. I would recommend this location - we live in southern Minnesota and it was definitely worth the drive!
After your purchase, don’t let the door hit you on the way out! Thinking about shopping at Erik’s; you might want to JUST SAY NO! Erik’s offers poor workmanship, damaged products and no service after the sale.
Worst bicycle shopping experience of my life. Took a bike in during a cross country trip for a check up. I was never called when the bike was done and I got it back in worse condition. Screws missing, pieces loose and falling off and when I took the bike in to complain found out that it was going to be $223 to replace the parts and still had to wait til the next day. Lost 3 days and a few hundred dollars thanks to Eric's service. I'll never go back!
After explaining the situation again and again to the manager, he finally agreed to refund my original repair bill.
Worst retail experience of my life, I waited 20 minutes in line to purchase a bike tube with 6 other people. We asked 5 different employees to help us checkout but was ignored. The service counter employees were capable of checking people out but just pushed it off on other employees when they weren't even helping anyone! finally watched people just leave while I think others might have just stolen the stuff. I think the people that work there are more interested in talking about bikes than selling bikes. I will never go back.
